Review:

I loved this book!! This refreshing story takes place in an isolated village in Nova Scotia. The heroine, Dora Rare, is drawn to a social outcast, Miss Babineau, an Acadian midwife with a gift for healing. As the story unfolds, Dora Rare learns the art of midwifery and learns the strength of her spirit, as well. Peek at the end of the book for a special surprise - you will find traditional remedies to cure various ailments. If you have the time and the inclination, try baking some groaning cake (a thick pudding cake made with lots of molasses).

I haven't read this book...

but a friend of mine tells me that she found it mediocre. Maybe she expected too much because of all the hype.
